Earth Bound - Interstellar Asteroid Spotted

Astronomers working with the Sandstrom Space Telescope have reported an interstellar asteroid today. The first so-called extragalactic asteroid, Oumuamua, passed by the Sun without incident in 2017, about 35 years ago. This newly discovered object passed through the Oort Cloud, a shell of rocky bodies surrounding our Solar System, just months before being detected. Most asteroids passing through our solar system are not visible until they are much closer to the Sun and reflect enough light to be observed. Principal investigators report that the object is emitting energy and produces a barely detectable blue light. “This thing is breaking all the rules,” **** told reporters. “An asteroid moving with such high speed, or one producing energy has never been observed before. It is moving across the orbital plane of the major planets, and it is headed for earth!” The US Quantum Computing Consortium immediately confirmed that, based on current measurements provided by the SST, there is a 42 percent chance of a near-earth encounter in 2055. The Global Defense Agency has called an emergency meeting. The GDA was commissioned only ten years ago, following efforts by several countries to develop asteroid deflection technology. Although much progress has been made since the first live test by Nasa in 2022, there has never been a deflection mission with such urgency
